First Aid Advice: “What to do until you get here”

Immediate Steps to Take Before Your Appointment

If you have a knocked-out tooth:
  • Pick it up by the crown (the white part), not the root.
  • Rinse it gently with milk or saline (do not scrub).
  • If possible, place it back in the socket. If not, store it in a container of milk or inside your cheek.
  • Get to our clinic immediately.
If you have a severe toothache:
  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water.
  • Use floss to gently remove any food trapped between teeth.
  • Take over-the-counter pain relief (like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol) if safe for you to do so.
  • Try to sleep with your head in a more elevated position (instead of flat)
